Raising Jane is all about raising three voices to the heavens, while keeping our six feet, and thirty toes, firmly planted on terra firma. Our music ranges from deeply spiritual music with Celtic roots, to classic American and English folk tunes, to contemporary pop and country. We enjoy bringing old, and lesser known, tunes to the ear of our audience. Rehearsals began in the spring of 2007 and have developed into a diverse collection of songs. Being mothers, and raising ten children between the three, brings a special bond and common goal to Raising Jane's music. The core group of vocalists, brings a special bond and common goal to Raising Jane's music.

At the heart of the band is the vivid talent and personality of button accordion virtuoso and composer David Munnelly. "One can honestly say, there is no musician that has mastered so much of the roots of the music in such a joyous, spirited, and engaging way," says Irish Music Magagine's editor Sean Laffey.
Munnelly's musical style is rooted in the music of his native County Mayo. "The music of Mayo has a passionate rhythm about it, a drive and energy," says Munnelly. David and his younger brother Kieran, who plays flute, bodhrán and sings with the band, were raised in a musical family where both began playing at the age of seven.

"We weren't taught music; we absorbed it," he explains. "My grandmother lived with us & she played; we listened & heard traditional music around the house - it was like drinking tea." David first came to attention in his early twenties touring with The Chieftains and recording on their Grammy-nominated album Water from the Well.
Named LiveIreland.com'sTraditional Artist of the Year and receiving a County Mayo Composer Award(2004 & 2005), he has also toured with De Danaan, Sharon Shannon, and other legendary Irish artists. The David Munnelly Band presents extraordinary music. Music critic Earle Hitchner writes in The Irish Echo, "The David Munnelly Band is something special. Every time Munnelly picks up the box, he guarantees excitement."

One of the most notable Irish musicians living in the Southwest, Jeff has been playing the guitar since the age of seven and has been studying and performing traditional Irish music for the past decade. Jeff has performed with many of the Southwest's foremost Celtic music ensembles. Jeff has also accompanied international touring musicians such as Cape Breton fiddler Jerry Holland, Dublin accordion legend James Keane, master Irish fiddler James Kelly, button accordion player Johnny B. Connolly, master musician and folklorist Mick Moloney, and Irish accordion maestro Joe Burke and John Williams.
Jonathan Milton has been playing traditional music on the timber flute, guitar, and pipes for 15 years. Some of my earliest (and most enduring) influences are the great uilleann piper, storyteller, and collector Seamus Ennis, the mighty Sligo flute player Josie McDermott and Matt Molloy. He is particularly drawn to the music of West Clare and the exponents of that music such as Willie Clancy, Bobby Casey and Peadar O’Loughlin as well as to the “Northern” and “Sligo” styles of flute playing.
